PAIN TO

PURPOSE

About Us

Dr. Peggy O’Neal

Executive Director

Promise Keepers Alliance, Incorporated was created out of pain that was transformed into purpose. I am a survivor and activist for domestic violence victims. My story is like many others, but I tell it to bring hope, help, and love to those affected by this type of violence. Again, I am a survivor of being abducted at gunpoint by a past intimate partner. I was raped, beaten, burned, and violated multiple times over two days. I prayed to die to simply stop the pain and abuse. Out of my pain, I promised God that, if he gave me the strength to stand again, I would fight for myself and others to help eradicate domestic violence. Additionally, I promised to advocate on the behalf of victims to assist with changing current laws.

Since my abduction and rape, I have fought for many individuals, and I will continue to fight and advocate for those that were never found and died alone, the ones who were found and are in recovery and for those to come. Pain started this journey, but purpose will be and is the final outcome.

Mission

Promise Keepers Alliance (PKA), Incorporated was founded on the vision and belief that every person has the right to be safe, empowered, and free from violence and the fear of violence. We fight daily to protect and strengthen the emotional, mental, and physical capabilities of abused and marginalized women, men and children. Together we diligently work to rebuild the whole person in order to remove barriers externally and introspectively that are related to the abuse both physically and emotionally endured or observed. PKA, Incorporated facilitates access to education and counseling services; provides access to work opportunities; and facilitates their integration back into society as a whole person with the strength and guidance of a strong support system. Promise Keepers Alliance, Incorporated is one team, one mission and one hope; together we will rebuild, restart and thrive in our self purpose, past experiences and goals.

Vision

Promise Keepers Alliance, Inc. works with victims of domestic violence to help them take back their STRENGTH and their VOICE. Together we build strong women, men and children who can take their adversity and turn them into stepping stones to a greater future. Domestic violence does not care if you are rich, poor, educated or have a learning disability; it affects everyone. Together we can make a difference and save a life or legacy of a loved one lost to violence.

DIVERSITY STATEMENT

Promise Keepers Alliance, Incorporated is committed to eliminating racism and all other forms of oppression. We understand that this is a limitless process, which requires ongoing openness, diligence, and work. We believe that any form of oppression enables domestic violence, and therefore, efforts to end domestic violence must include an anti-oppression agenda.

OUR BOARD

Makeisha Griffin – MSL

Treasurer

I joined PKA because the desire to serve and make a difference has always been a part of who I am. It is important to lend a hand/resources to others, and being a member of the board allows me to do that and more. I am excited for the great things that we will do in the communities that we serve.

Imani Burnett – BSW

I joined PKA because I watched my mother Dr. Peggy O’Neal fight to reclaim her life after suffering tremendous domestic violence abuse while helping others escape poverty, domestic violence and other hard life situations. She never waivered nor did she ever consider her time or finances involved with helping others. This is a legacy that my mother has set for her children and a multitude of other children, women, and men that she has helped throughout my entire life. Domestic violence affects everyone, and if we do not take a stand, we accept the behavior and become a part of the problem.

Phillip Hood, Jr., Cer. AT Board Member

My reason for joining Promise Keepers is because I have always been an ally for women and children experiencing any type of hardships. My passion is to uplift women and their children spiritually, mentally, and physically. Promise Keepers offers this and more.
